Finally received my $233.06 US from Google Adsense for my July 2008 earnings.  Hell it took them long enough!  I still blame Michael Phelps and the Beijing Olympics for the slow payment.  I’ve already surpassed my July 2008 earnings for the month of August and I still have a couple more days to go!  I think I better start setting larger Adsense goals!

My Google Adsense account finally showed the “payment in progress.”  I don’t know why it took so long this month.  I usually have the payment in my bank account before the 25th of every month but for some reason August has been slow.  I think it might have to do with the fact that the payment in progress period fell during the weekend this August or maybe it’s because of the Beijing Olympics!  I’m not going to lie, I’m having a bit of Beijing Olympic withdrawal right now.  Anyway, my July 2008 earnings were adjusted from $233.16 to the actual payment of $233.06 - I lost $0.10 - I don’t know why but maybe it’s due to a misclick or whatever.  Who knows.  August is shaping up to be a good month.  I’ve definitely surpassed the goals that I had set up for this month!  I will be posting the Google Adsense income report in a few days!

As a medical student I don’t have time for a conventional part-time job where I’m expected to be somewhere at a certain time doing things that pay me minimum wage.  Between classes, labs, and studying I barely have time to eat.  Like most medical students I am deeply in debt and not just debt from medical school but also debt from my undergraduate days.  I don’t want to spend the rest of my life paying back my loans.  Instead, I am attempting to pay back my loans NOW!

Making money online is an awesome way for medical students to earn a passive income.  Passive income is the best income one can have.  In a nutshell, passive income implies that you do nothing and the money just comes.  However, in reality you do have to do a little bit in order to get something in return.  Working at home at my leisure is great.  It’s taken me over a year to build a nice passive income of over $200 a month but it’s worth it.  At this point I don’t even have to do anything to get that amount every month for as long as I keep my domains.  What would you do if you had an extra $200 a month?  For me I use it to pay my electricity and phone bills.

If after a year of building websites, optimising them for search engines, and making money with Adsense I’m making over $200 a month, imagine what I will be making in 3 years time!  My friends always joke about the fact that by the time I make decent money online I’ll be a doctor and at that point I don’t really need to find ways to make money on the side.  This is probably true but in 3 years time I want to make $3000 a month and no matter who you are I’m sure you will find some great use for $3000 a month.

It’s that time of the month again! July 2008 was a good month for me. I hit my biggest Google Adsense total to date for the month! In July 2008 I made $233.16 US from 52,964 Google page impressions. That’s way up from last month’s total of $158.07 US! In the month of July I experimented with ad placement putting more ads above the fold and used image ads instead of text ads on one of my websites to get a better click through rate. All of that plus some periodic link building yielded a 48% revenue increase!

Google Adsense Income Summary July 2008

Adsense Revenue July 2008: $233.16

Adsense Revenue June 2008: $158.07

Percent Increase: 48%

Projected August 2008 Adsense Revenue: $345.08

I don’t think my August revenue is going to be quite that high mainly because August is a really busy month for me school wise so I won’t have that much time to work and write articles for my websites. However, knowing that I will soon make on average $10 a day from Adsense is rewarding in itself.

My goal was to make $10 a day from Adsense by the end of December 2008 but now I think my new goal is going to be $20 a day from Adsense by the end of December 2008!

I finally received the $158.07 from Adsense that I made in June 2008. Seriously, anybody can do this! The key factor to making money online is to be patient. We all have to start somewhere. If you looked at my previous Google Adsense income reports you will notice that when I first used Adsense I was making less than a penny a day! July is supposedly a slow month in term of making decent money online due to the summer weather but I’ve already surpassed my June 2008 earnings and there’s still a few days left!!!! Stay tuned to find out how much I’ve made from Adsense in the month of July!

Just a little recap…

Tuition = $165,000

Living Expenses = $50,000

Total Cost = $215,000

Previous Total Google Adsense Paid = $898.13

June 2008 Google Adsense Payment = $158.07

Total Google Adsense Paid = $1,056.20

Total Medical School Debt = $213,943.80

If you been reading this site you will notice that my goal for all of this is to pay back my medical school debt by using the money that I make online. However, the totals that I’ve posted there does not include the interest that goes with borrowing money for my education. Right now, I’m only using Adsense on my sites but once I get a little more traffic I will start using doing private ad sales and affiliate marketing. If a medical student has time to do all this, you can too and I will document my journey every step of the way!!!

So the money that I made from Google Adsense in June totaled $158.07 US and the payment for that is in progress as of July 24, 2008. I have opted to receive my payments via direct deposit because it takes way faster. You can see the screenshot of my Google payment in progress below. As of right now, it looks like I will pass the $200 Google Adsense earnings for the month of July 2008! Hmmmm maybe I can reach $1000 a month by December 2008! Although I would be happy with $10 a day on average at this point!

I’m half way to my goal of $10 per day from Google Adsense in my make money online venture. Right now I’m averaging a little over $5 a day from Adsense and that took almost a year to achieve mainly because I was studying full time and only worked on my sites maybe once a week. The good news is that getting $5 a day from Adsense is achievable without spending a dime on advertising!!! Hell some of my sites are even hosted on Blogspot! Yeah I’m a poor student so I did everything on my own. Listen kids, hard work does pay off.

My goal for December 2008 is to make on average $10 a day from Google Adsense. That’s $300 a month, $3650 a year. $300 a month can help cut my rent in half! I’m half way there without even doing much at this point so it’s definitely conceivable. I’ve been lucky enough to get a fair amount of organic, i.e. search engine, traffic to most of my sites. All I have to do is keep replicating what works for me. Yes that takes a hell of a lot of time but when you see positive results it’s so worth it. I’ll keep you posted on this adventure! Seriously, you can do it to.

One of the most frequent question I get from people who are staring out is, “How long did it take for you to get your first Google Adsense check?” OK so here’s the breakdown:

Joined Google Adsense on Friday June 16, 2006

Balance at the end of May 2007 = $101.19 USD

Paid $101.19 on June 26, 2007

LOL

Yeah it took me a little under a year to get over that $100 threshold and a little over a year to get paid. Discouraging I know. However, at the time I only had 1 site and was not doing anything with it really it. I mean I must’ve updated it twice a month if that. Plus I didn’t really know what I was doing.. (I still don’t). So why the sudden interest in making money online? Well, I just want to show people out there that it is possible and that you don’t need money to make money. You just need to get the right information and apply it. It’s obviously not about the money for me because in a few years I’ll be a doctor and I’ll be able to pay back my loans with no problems. The satisfaction of building something with your bare hands is worth more than the money.

So I have 8 websites. All of them are created using blogging software so I guess you can say they are “blogs.” I don’t really consider them blogs because I don’t update them often. I mainly use Wordpress as a content managing system. 7 of the sites are hosted with Bluehost and 1 on Blogger. 90% of my Google Adsense revenue comes from 2 sites. This is because the other 5 sites are fairly new and on average I believe that it takes about 6 months to get decent traffic to brand new sites without any advertising! I’ve been with Bluehost for over 2 years now and so far I’ve had no complaints! When I first signed up I was only able to host 5 domains on one account. Even though I was on the old package at the time they introduced the unlimited domains feature they still upgraded me to the new plan for free! They have excellent technical support based in the US, NOT India. They are friendly and reliable. Plus they’re way cheap! Installing Wordpress is so easy with Bluehost and updating to newer versions of Wordpress is even easier. So if you’re looking to switch to a great web hosting company or if you’re a newbie, then give Bluehost a try.
